I am surprised so many PCs are sold as it is. I wonder if people are happy with them or they just sit in a drawer or closet somewhere.
Macs aren't the answer to everyone's needs. Apple only have a touch over 4% of the worldwide market so do you think the other 96% of customers are sitting there head in hand wishing they had a Mac?
Apple have targeted the highly profitable premium home market and now dominate it. They aren't interested in the low end or business market because they don't need a huge market share to do well and are prepared to let their competitors fight amongst themselves for those lower margin sales.

If Apple manufactured their products in the US, the iPhone would probably cost $999 with a 2-year contract and the iPad would probably cost $1599 for the 16GB model.
When you have to pay someone $12 an hour to work an assembly line and pay for benefits and payroll taxes, that raises costs a lot to a country where you can pay 75 cents per hour and benefits like health insurance cost $5 a month rather than $500.
A 25-page document isn't necessary and the law would be dumb. All that it takes is for someone to take a basic economics course.
Americans who complain about jobs leaving overseas need to realize that when they go shopping they need to put their money where their mouth is. Everyone pays lip service to "made in the usa" but when they look at the price tags in the store they buy made in china!
The thing to watch here is if the quality improves when production is done in Brazil. If the production quality is the same or better, that's good news for consumers.

I'm getting sick and tired of those phony patriots who have the gall to call Apple a greedy corporation for manufacturing things in China to save money, even though those same people happily buy cheap goods without caring in the least if they're made in China or not.

Like you, I'm not familiar with the details of their business model. Some of what they manufacture might be labor intensive, and some of it might be built on a robotic assembly line. Trying to figure this out from that Wikipedia article will be nothing but speculation.

The ios iPod app is an abomination. Even with my moderately sized(about 3000 songs, most are just vocab flash cards) the thing chokes on my 3gs and even a bit on 1g iPad. It takes seconds, yes SECONDS to respond to input, not to mention all the crashing. Even if they could make a 128gb iPod touch, I would shudder to think at how insanely slow the iPod app would be if you loaded that puppy up with music.

I'm not saying your "scenarios" below aren't possible ones, but I really believe part of this comes down to people needing to be more selective who they choose to spend the rest of their lives with.
I bought a house, got married, we had a kid, and then got divorced, so I'm not saying I'm perfect ... but I am saying I made some mistakes and learned a lot from them.
Other than the very first job I ever had (telemarketing for a carpet cleaning place), I've always worked in computers and I.T. It's not only my sole source of income, but also a passionate hobby interest outside of work. Knowing this, I finally concluded that it's just plain foolish for me to try to have a serious relationship with any woman who doesn't "get" the whole technology thing, or thinks it's a "big waste of money". And you know what? That rules out a whole LOT of women out there, who can easily rationalize away their "need" for multi-hundred dollar new dresses or pairs of shoes, but just can't see why you could possibly need a new hard drive when "you already bought one of those things just a few years ago!".
Everyone wants different things out of their relationships ... but I'm just speaking for myself here. Some guys really don't CARE how the money they earn gets spent, as long as they've got a roof over their head, food on the table, and a wife and kids to come home to. Others have to be in control of every penny spent. Still others WANT to have to ask their wife for permission all the time, because they feel they're bad at managing money and would rather leave it up to her to do it all for them.
Right now, I'm about to get married to a terrific woman who works in I.T. like I do, and shares a lot of the same values and interests I have. Neither of us makes the kind of income we'd like to make and with 3 kids between us? Things can get pretty tough at times. But I think both of us share the idea that "If you earn the money yourself, you get to spend it on whatever you want. I don't care or need to know, as long as we've both done our share to cover the essentials first."
Obivously:
1. You are not married.
2. You don't understand wives.

Are you joking? The basic $200 one lacks DVD burning, XBox 360 connectivity, media center, the whole new GUI, and searching! Each one has disadvantages, purposely crippled by Microsoft- only the $300 business edition has encryption and backup, remote desktop and multi-processor support (that's right, you need the business for multiple processors- since the lower end models can use multiple cores and are multithreaded, this means Microsoft DELIBERATELY disabled the functionality in the other models), only the $240 Premium edition has DVD burning, slideshows, media center, etc...
They're trying to force you into buying the Ultimate edition.
Frankly, you shouldn't have to spend $400 to get what Apple includes in the BASIC OS.

It's worth mentioning that my comment is about five days old. Some things have changed like proposals to arm the Libyan rebels and stepped-up attacks on Libyan forces. I'm guessing he got the MBP before the iPad. And, the 13 inch MBP can do a lot more than an iPad, while being more portable than the 15".

All I care about right now is if this will run on a Mac pro 1,1. And if so, and it is using all cores finally, will there be a big performance increase on my system over my current FCP6.
If the answer is yes to both I'm in. I won't be impressed however if they artificially lock out older Macs.

I don't like the Microsoft bashing either...it's just something that gets to me. Microsoft bashing is a waste of energy. Who cares what company did what first, as a consumer I don't care about originality. Just give me something that works. Whatever company can implement the idea the best to provide a benefit to ME, gets my business. Just shut up and innovate (like Apple has been doing), the products will speak for themselves.

But backups and updates are critical for such a device. That is my whole point... Are you arguing that it does not need ota syncing or just arguing? Obviously its serviceable without tethering, but you do need to sync it to a computer for it to work. Thats like if I had to plug my scooter into my car just to get it going. It makes it a luxury and not a necessity. They would sell more by making it stand on its own. Even if it required a wifi connection to do updates and sync. They would sell even more than they already do.

People always say well apple should have done this, I can't believe they don't allow users to do this, etc. etc. If you realize that you may want these features because you are technologically inclined, but the majority of "normal" users would just be confused by it you would understand more why they make the decisions that they do.
Most people don't know how to install or uninstall programs, manage a file system, what the difference between HD and SD is, 720p vs 1080p, hell i know people who don't even know what bluray is. Your average family usually has more to worry about than if they have the latest technology.
So can someone explain to me why they have to get Verizon's permission to offer system upgrades over the air, when you can already go in the app store and download Angry Birds over the air? Seriously, this would be a security boon to be able to push updates without tethering them to a computer. Many people don't sync their iPhones for weeks at a time, but they are on them daily. If you can push out security updates sooner, then it is a good thing for everyone involved. And I would wager there's waaaaay more bandwidth being sucked up by iTunes and the App Store than system updates would require.

It's a combination of a nicety, and to keep pace with the others. WP7 and Android based devices have this now, so it only makes sense. I'm sure folks will complain, and poke fun at Apple [e.g. "Magical"]...lol. But, it's a good thing.
If they can do this, add solid notifications, allow some minimal customization, and lastly some form of a "Widget" based system, it'll kill. I personally think the last part is a waste, but that's me. I don't even use the widgets on OSX, and tried them on an Android device. I found it more of an annoyance than anything. But that's just my personal opinion. Some people love them...

I'm not sure the iPhone device shown on picture and movie is a fake.
I suppose it is just not the CDMA or GSM mobile phone device we think about.
Il could be just some kind of WIFI device that let us:
- use iChat, via Wifi, at a distance of the computer
- call via IP from home ( a new feature comming to iChat).
- control home music on airport express
- Watch a clip or movie...
- ...
Some kind of remote Front Row...
One thing that make me think its real is that, on the WWDC, just under the 64 bits logo, left, there is a small device like a long ipod in its cradle, that could perfecly be that "Remote Front Row"

You have to love small towns. I spent about an hour and a half in one Saturday morning getting my taxes done, so I pulled out the camera while I was waiting. I have a few keepers (by my standards of course, which are pretty low) to show over the next few days.

Why is this on the front page? It's like saying that WalMart is now selling a junk tablet. Except this article says that Toys R Us and Best Buy is now selling iPads. This isn't front page news.
Sure it is. Best Buy is one of the largest retailers for electronics in US. That Apple can get product into this channel should out to rest some of the supply constraint issues for Apple, and that IS front page worthy news about the short term future of Apple, especially if you own stock in them.
