They banned songs like Lucy in the Sky and Ticket to Ride... (not to mention Metallica's Seek and Destroy) because the songs reminded people of the event.

I worked in radio at the time. That list was fake.

That's the image Apple is trying to put out there.

That the Mac is for fun and PC is for working? I don't think so. I'd rate that as nothing more than an opinion, and a rather prejudicial opinion at that.

Count me as another part of "the population" who uses a Mac for business. All of it. In fact, my Windows box is relegated strictly to games. What you don't seem to recognize is that not everyone in business is a cubicle-dweller beholden to an IT department. We non cubicle-dwellers get to decide for ourselves what technology we use to run our businesses.

I wonder how computers and smartphones would look now if there was never an iPod. Apple might not ever have taken the leap and make the iPhone or the iPad. Cell phones might all be running windows mobile version 7 that would look just like winMo 6. We might not have an Android OS, or if we did, it might look totally different. Tablets might still look like they did in 2004. Microsoft might have rested on its laurels and never made Win7 as good as it is.

No I completely understand. I think it would be a good idea. I just don't see it happening from an Apple point of view.

    Love that Kool-aid.....:p

And I agree - let's just say I would be pleasantly surprised if Apple did indeed release a Conroe mini-tower, emphasis on surprised. ;)

i think i would rather read a paperback

wouldnt the screen strain the eyes?

I used to think that, but then I started using my old (now deceased) Kyocera 7135 smartphone to read books. Smaller screen than the iPod, not as high resolution. At one point I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in a single weekend on it, with absolutely no feelings of eye strain. It's not an issue any more.

I found when reading on a smart phone I actually preferred it over a paperback -- easier to hold open (so I could sip my coffee), no worries about losing the page, backlight meant that I could read on the bus in the morning on the way to work, or other places where lighting wasn't always convenient.

Additionally I found I read more, because I always had several books with me, and they were always handy -- standing in a supermarket lineup, I could pull it out and read 2 or 3 pages while waiting.

These days I've even experimented with using j2me to read books on my T610. Not as comfy as the Kyocera, but again no issues with eye strain.

If the T610 is readable, the iPod will be no problem...

There seem to be varying reports of the serial numbers affected, and Apple's site seems dead right now. I'm hoping my battery IS affected, because I was getting close to ordering a new battery, as my year-and three month old battery is down to 25% of it's original capacity after 440 load cycles.

The site was up briefly and claimed 4-6 weeks for the new battery to ship. That's a LONG time to go without a battery.

Ain't that the truth! Anyone actually seen someone using one of these yet?

I saw someone using one in the J&R next to where I work, but he bought a Creative Zen instead. I guess he didn't like the brown ipod-esque player.

I am NOT into "talkies" - I think they are called "movies" now? But what excites me, especially as an AAPL investor (mostly at $4/share) is the vision of iSteve and his team. Where the hell would we be if we only had that other fellow...yes, I'm pleased that fellow donates for world health, God bless him....

Usually one person will get in a tank and if he is able to take out the other tank theres no real way to stop them.
4 or 5 Sniper shots will destroy a tank. 2 or 3 if you are precise and can hit either the driver compartment, or the exhaust vent. Just FYI.

But also, you will only have to deal with that for a about another week. The October update to playlists and maps is coming next week, and the Tank is being swapped for a Wraith, along with a host of other fixes and tweaks that people have noticed in this first couple weeks of playing.

He didn't mean the Mac OS; he meant an app he bought from the App Store that was 4GB.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to apps purchased in the Mac AppStore, not the OS itself.

    ah, I mis-read the post.

    my apologies.

Here's how I look at it....

Developers are like customers. You have some customers who play by the rules and benefit the company and themselves. Then you have "those" customers who think the world owes them everything. They whine and bitch about anything and everything. They refuse to follow rules or regulations, whine when they don't get their own way, and will purposely try to manipulate and play the system to their advantage.

Eventually, the company notices and places strict guidelines, rules and restrictions to make sure "those" customers can no longer take advantage of the company. Meanwhile, the customers who do play by the rules now have to deal with the hassle of the same restrictions because "those" customers had to ruin it for everyone.

And anyone who has ever worked customer service knows exactly what I'm on about. That's the reason there is a billion lines of fine print for just about everything these days.

So instead of jumping on the whole "lets bash Apple because they're a successful corporation" bandwagon, how about blaming the people who take advantage of the system and break the rules which is what inevitably what got the rules put there in the first place.

Just ordered a silver 4GB with inscription for my girlfriend. It's her birthday present (from last month) and she got to choose the colour herself... :)

Ordered a Tucano Second Skin Guaina for my MacBook at the same time to save a buck on shipping... ;)

Now that the nanos look (and presumably feel) like the minis I might be tempted to get a nano, and not just a new battery, whenever my 1G green mini's battery decides to quit... a green 4GB nano would be a perfect replacement...

I am one of the folks who say that. I am not a fan of the band or group. It might mean I don't like what they might stand for, or their individual ideas so I don't buy every thing they do or did. It usually means that I don't like the sound or style of the bulk of their catalog. An example would be not liking a particular genre of music but finding one song I enjoy out of that genre. I don't like country music as a type but I have a few songs in my library that are country tunes. But I might put all that aside and enjoy one or two songs from an artist that I don't particularly like. I have had artists that I liked so much I bought everything they did only to later look back and say wha??? Why did I do that?

You don't have to love the Beatles music. I do, and billions of other people do, but you don't.

But, you do have to recognize that without them, popular music would be an entirely different game right now. People can't remember a time when rock/pop was only ONE type of popular music. The Beatles made it THE type of music, and virtually everything that has come since is a direct result of that change; both musically, and in spirit, in terms of the artistic freedom and experimentation that the Beatles encouraged.

This is not to mention the enormous influence the Beatles had on the recording process itself; the technical advances that went down at Abbey Road in the 60's were mindboggling, and many have become standard studio practice.

So no, you don't have to love the music. But you must grant that without the Beatles, most of the music you DO love would be a whole lot different.

For all the features that Linux may have, it doesn't have the software support to be a major player right now. There are some nice programs, that I use everyday on my Linux box, but not nearly enough to replace my XP box at work.

you could say the same for os x ;). seriously, on some areas linux propably has the best apps there is. same goes for os x. it depends on what you do with the machine.

Remember something, Nipsy, i'm on your side here. I want Apple to do well just as much as you do. I just happen to believe that Apple needs to do it in a different way than you and I don't know why you needed to take this argument to insults, other than some need to always believe that you are right.

benixau made a rash reply, without reading my posts and believed that i hate Macs, because he was blindly supporting Apple, just as you are.

"Now, I'd love if you could quote an insult from me."

That wasn't actually directed towards you.

"I'm intelligent enough to know that Apple does not have the market cap to fully control their chip evolution, and you, it seems, are not."

    There you go.

"No, but you suggested that we should rally around some cause (design chips, boycott Apple, etc.) and vocalize. "

Where did i say we should design chips or boycott Apple? Now you're just liying and it's no wonder you have come to your conclusions, considering you fabricate things like this.

"When we started this argument, I observed..."

This is exactly my point! We are suggesting virtually the same thing, except you are fabricating arguments for some reason that i can't understand, unless you simply "like the sound of your own voice" as it were.

"Without you, I'm sure they'd be gunning to slow things down. I'm sure you'll be back to tell us how this 1.8 GHz 64 bit Power4 derivative is slow compared to the 3.8 GHz PIV next year."

Yes, that's very intelligent. [/sarcasm] See i can do it too! I wasn't saying that my suggestion in any way influences Apple, and if you were so intelligent, you would have known that.

This is the exact reason i suggested that people let Apple know what they want. A company, one that wants to stay in business at least, will not completely ignore its customers and if you let them know what you want in large numbers, you may well get it.

If anyone has demonstrated lack of intelligence in this whole thread, Nipsy, it's you. You lie and misinterpret peoples posts in order to get your points across. Which, in the end, seem to be incredibly similar to the very points that you are dismissing.

I'll say it again, take your arguments elsewhere, as someone who lies, misinterprets people's posts and more importantly seems to simply want to fire up an argument that isn't there, as you do, is pointless in discussing anything with.

If you are intelligent, as you so call yourself, i fear for society.
